I must say I’m baffled at the whole “Sanjaya” American Idol thing! I can’t believe I’m blogging about it, but someone needs to step up and help this guy!

What is going on? What’s up with the hair, dude? Last night was another level…I’m all for the underdog but come on! Somebody, let me know if you have any insight on this! I don’t think I can take much more.

  • Okay…I’m on my soapbox so to speak because I never thought he should’ve made it this far. Especially as music and worship is my chosen career. The only thing I can think is that there are enough teens that are voting to keep him in the competition. My wife and I sit and watch most of the shows and we both don’t get it. Musically he doesn’t have the vocal maturity or vocal strength that I think it takes to be a professional musician. It may develop but vocally I think he is too young right now That’s my thought on it.

  • Maybe it will be the new fad…like leggings for girls and pointy-toed alligator shoes for guys (you know you wear them Buddy!);, we hate them at first but eventually embrace them. Maybe I’ll sport a pony-hawk at Northway this weekend to help Sanjaya get the trend going. :) JK!

  • Kevin A:

If you haven’t heard, there is a website called “Votefortheworst.com” and he has been the one that they chose to vote for. I also know a 5th grade teacher and that age group is in love with him and they are more likely than us to vote. I don’t vote, do you Buddy?

  • buddy:

    Kevin-

Interesting….the power of 5th graders. No I don’t vote, but I’m tempted too now!

    Libby-

Alligator shoes and leggings are cool! I can even handle a mohawk….but a a pony tail mowhawk is a different issue…please refrain. :-)

    Tom-

The power of teens! I agree with your assesment, and thanks for clearing things up!

  • Missy:

My daughter refers to it as a Frohawk. I thought that was interesting.

  • LAV:

Pastor Buddy, I don’t watch the show, but I can’t help to know who he is, with all the hype and stuff. I guess it’s taking peoples mind off of all the bad things that are going on in the world.  Maybe people need a break so maybe he is serving a purpose after all. I know one thing, his life wont be the same after this. He will be as well known as Elvis and it’s going to open up a lot of doors for him, at least for a while anyway.

  • Paul D:

I’ve heard through the grapevine that Howard Stern is conducting a get out the vote campaign for Sanjaya on his XM talk show. Hopefully his listeners are few in number, but I don’t think that is the case.

  • buddy:

    Missy-

I think he should stick with the ‘fro’ instead of the ‘hawk!’

    LAV-

I don’t think this guy’s shelf life will be as long as Elvis’. But, let’s be honest, Sanjaya has you ‘all shook up.’ :-)

    Paul-

Thanks for the heads up! That’s another reason not to like Howard Stern!

I think people are getting sick and tired of so called “reality” shows.  Voting for the worst of this group is the result…a backlash if you will.  Besides, no one…even the winners…has really been that good.  They have all been bland, vanilla.  Remember, it is a popularity contest not a talent show.

  • Mary Ann:

This could ruin American Idol. He can not be the next idol. Like Simon says this is a singing competition. I voted last week I feel like I can’t complain if I don’t vote.

  • Sonya:

    Buddy-
He makes me crazy too. But, he must be a marketing wiz because we all know about him. He is taking us all for a ride and getting the most out of his American Idol experience. I dont think he is a great singer, but he is good for ratings! (I didnt vote for him!) I think he is a ploy to make the younger girls watch.. All those judges need thier millions.

  • ANNA:

As a hair dresser i must say that i love the do…dislike the singing.  But as one comment said, there are more than a few web sites that are anti something.  First time though in American Idol history that they have had one of their own be a target.
Which brings me to the sad realization on how America will vote for or against based..not on talent and not on the heart and soul that these kids put in every week but…will vote against them due to the negative attention it will bring.
Lets just all wait for another week of different style(s) singing and my all time favorite Tonny B..
    Anna -out- lol

  • Jon DeMartino:

I read on Yahoo Headlines that Howard Stern was pushing this guy and he was attempting to influence the ballots through his radio program. Not sure it is true – I do not pay much attention to either AI or the Stern radio show.

  • buddy:

    Jim & Sue-

Reality TV has been all over the place for the last 5-10 years. That’s all that’s been on lately!

  • buddy:

    Mary Ann-

Exactly…we can’t complain if we don’t vote! Simon is right!

    –Buddy

  • buddy:

    Sonja-

He certainly is making the most of his Idol experience! Amazing that he’s getting more publicity than the others who will probably be in the final group!

    Anna-

If he had longer hair, I’d get you to give our Worship Pastor, Kevin Brustle, a frohawk for our Easter services! HA! :-)

  • buddy:

    Jon-

I’ve heard the same thing…like I was telling Paul…that’s another reason not to like Howard Stern!

  • Addie Lee:

I am so glad to see that God hasn’t changed your spirit on life and how you help us all relate to this crazy world around us. The whole American Idol thing has gotten so “Brittany Spearish” that it is so whack that it isn’t fun to watch.

  • buddy:

What’s up Addie lee and what’s up North Carolina!?

Great to hear from a voice of the past ministry days in student ministry! We still have a blast doing ministry and it all started at NC. Give Bret and your family our love and your kids are precious….Tell Mo hello and we will be at FC in June….see you soon!
