John 17:20-23 I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be ONE, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be ONE as we are ONE: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.
It’s pretty remarkable that Jesus would take time to pray for you and me. Consider the timing of his prayer and it’s beyond remarkable! Jesus knew he was hours from being tortured. I don’t know about you, but when I’m struggling with something major, (let alone dying, being tortured, and carrying the weight of the sins of the world), the last thing my focus would be on is praying for others. I’m too self centered.
Maybe that was Christ’s point. When you stop and think about it, how many prayers have we asked God to answer in our lifetime…
Wouldn’t it be cool if we just stopped once and answered ONE of his?
