Emotional Idols

Managing your emotions in life is the secret of success. However, many times, our emotional gauges as leaders are the most neglected.

In Part 2 of CC, Brandon cuts thru the complexity with a question…who have you set up as your emotional idol? Ouch!

Cremeans Couch airs every Monday on my blog.

Hey Buddy what an awesome week! Thank you for being such a great pastor to all
of us. Thanks for the encouragement! We’re always praying for you.

  • Hi. I just wanted to say I love the concept, the websites, and most of what is related to your church, and up until just now, I had no Idea your church was affiliated with my church, Fellowship Church Grapevine Texas with Ed Young Jr. AWESOME, small world! Keep it up! Oh, and your brother, or son, who is named Devin, does GREAT VIDEO WORK! THanks.

ps. I’ve run steadicam HD, and edited video for Ed Young and FEllowship church in the past, but you guys are so much better at it… I’ll be watching your sites and stuff for inspiration, thanks.

  • I meant to say also, the camera movement is absolutely Hollywood quality! No exaggeration. I am a seasoned HD Pro Camera operator, DP, and Steadicam Owner/Operator, and the smooth movement looks almost crane or jib, but I think it was a dolly/track. No matter what you used to move the camera side to side was executed with consistent and excellent discipline. Please make sure the camera operator, and director hear my comments! Please continue to do what you all are already doing so very well, this makes me so darn excited knowing the quality and creativity coming out of the church these days is rivaling Hollywood Blockbusters, which in turn will attract many many more millions of unchurched to the “House”. AMEN! God Bless you guys, and fellow church, and my church Fellowship with Ed Young, In Dallas, Texas… you all are changing the face of Christianity for the better!

Pastor Buddy, I have just finished watching the talk you had with Brandon Thomas on ‘emotional’ idols. Wow! For most of my life I had ‘emotional idols’…. romantic relationships; unhealthy romantic relationships. Until, through rejection, betrayal, and then to addiction ,I struggled for emotional support; I have now been clean & sober for almost 3 yrs., been in treatment, gone to Celebrate Recovery, and of course continue to attend Northway Church and with the total commitment to Jesus, I now know the ONLY ONE who can give me that love and support is JESUS!! My dependence on Him has brought me nothing but joy! I am still ’single’ and still healing, with no desire to get into a ‘romantic’ relationship; I’m completely content to continue falling in love with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Thanks for showing us that pastors feel lonely too; It helps me understand and realize that as ‘human beings’ we all need HIM!! This has reinforced my belief that the more down to earth pastors are, the more people will identify with them! You are awesome!!!

Hey, this is great getting to see Pastor Brandon on the “big screen”! His point of making our spouses into idols is so true. My parents divorced before I was a year old and I never knew my father. So when my awesome and amazing husband entered my life, I believed God was making up for my lack of a father by bringing me the “perfect” husband. I put my husband so far up on a pedestal, it was impossible for him to stay up there very long. Don’t get me wrong, my husband is still awesome and amazing, but now I allow him to be human, too! I know that my ultimate “father”, “husband” and everything is God. Only He is mighty enough to stay on that pedestal for all eternity!

Thanks for the reminder, Pastor Brandon. As always, you speak straight to our hearts!
