Buddy, I hear ya on the prayer issue. I struggle with the same issue. Started reading The Attributes of God by AW Tozer. I believe this is going to be a great help in my prayer life. My first new prayer is Father God; please forgive me for allowing my imagination to form my idea of who you are.

I think alot of things that we "are supposed to do" are considered difficult. Now that you are a Christian, you "are supposed to ______". Pray fits in that spot.

There are many forms of prayer, just as there are many forms of praise. But that is its own topic! Prayer is such a beautiful gift. 1 Tim 4:14 When we are away from someone we love, we long to tell them everything that we've been through when we see them again. We have been reunited with Christ and can go straight to Him and talk with Him about anything! The beautiful thing is, Jesus is with us at all times. We can talk with Him whenever we want!

Praying the Word is a part of the whole armour of God. Eph 6:17-18
We are to pray for one another for healing and restoration...prayer makes tremendous power available. James 5:16 Amplified Version
Prayer is not to be flaunted. Matt 6:5-6
Pray to keep yourself from falling into temptation. Matt 26:41
Prayer builds your faith. Jude 1:20
God will help us when we don't know what to pray. Rom 8:26

There's always more of Christ to be found! Prayer brings your focus to Him and opens the door for Him to come into your circumstance. How can I not pray?

I pray a lot, but not as much as I could. I love prayer. I believe the mandate for God's people in this hour is to be a people watching and waiting in the place of prayer.

I've been studying prayer for almost 10 years now. I'm not sure how to sum it all up, but I'll say this:

Prayer used to be difficult for me, but I only used to think of prayer in one dimension. It was more like a meeting than a conversation. Then I discovered all the different ways of praying. The more you pray, the better you get and the more your prayer vocabulary grows. Also, I think it’s imperative that one prays out loud. Praying in your head just isn’t the same.

I think praying scripture is a most effective way. Not only am I reminding God of His promise to me, I am reminding myself and declaring to my own soul over and over again how faithful God has been or will be. The more I say it out loud with my mouth, the more my hears physically hear, and the more my spirit is changed(Romans 10:16-18).

One of my favorite ways to pray is to sing prayer, especially some of the apostolic prayers(Eph 1:17-19, Eph 3:16-19, Col 1:9-11).

I think it's important to remember that prayer is the way we are partnering with the Father to declare Jesus as King and give Him dominion on the earth.

The International House of Prayer in Kansas City has been praying/singing prayers non-stop 24/7 since September 19th 1999! They have some great CD’s called Apostolic Prayer Vol 1 &2. I encourage you to check them out! They combine worship and prayer in a very powerful way.

Buddy,
One thing I do, is use the prayers in Scripture and pray them back to God while praying for other people. I figure if its in the Bible, it must be his will. One example is Col 1:9-11. "I ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will with all spiritual wisdom and understanding. I pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way, bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might..." I've been praying this for you too.

Also, I would like to know more about what it means to,"pray in the Spirit".

I have always considered myself a prayer warrior. Throughtout the years, I have had seasons of prayer and seasons of drought but I had never really been able to stick to a regular prayer regimen. This year, although I really don't believe in New Year's Resolutions, I broke my own rule and resolved to fulfill 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (Amplified Bible) 17 Be unceasing in prayer [praying perseveringly]. I realized that the only way to fulfill this longing is to talk to God and not to myself. It's that simple! To think of all the years that I wasted having senseless conversations..some out loud...with myself when I could have been conversing with God instead. Buddy, it works! Each time I realize I am talking to myself...I re-direct my thoughts to Him. I have seen a drastic change in my spiritual life..a greater sense of discernment and so many answered prayers..

Buddy,

I have to say that prayer comes pretty easy for me MOST of the time. There are times when I'm sort of blocked however. I think that happens mostly when something is effecting me personally and it's so heavy that I don't know where to begin.
My prayer life is basically an ongoing conversation. It starts whenever I'm awake (even in the middle of the night) and continues off and on through the day. I'm in the habit of praying on my 20 minute ride to work. Great way to jump start my day. I love talking with our Creator.
One tip I have found helpful is this:
When someone asks for prayer, I try and pray right then. I tend to forget when I put things off. I think I dishonor people when I say I will pray and then forget to do it.
I'll be praying for you Byddt (right now in fact).

Father, in this "season of prayer" that you're taking Buddy on, I ask that you would enlighten him to the things you want him to learn. I pray that you would take away distractions that would keep him from spending time in prayer. I also ask that you would help him to establish some new "prayer habits" that will become as natural as breathing. I pray for greater compassion and boldness, not only for Buddy but for me as well. Bring revival to us as individuals and as a church. Thank you for Buddy's willingness to serve you God. Thank you for his willingness to take risks and to stand up for what he believes in. Bless he and his family.
It's in Jesus name I pray!
Amen!!!
Blessings,
Sue

Buddy , There is no one that prays as well as you do.

To answer your question, I pray every day, and years ago, I did not know how to pray or to have a relationship with Jesus. It was you that taught me.

Thank You!
