I Quit! (1 of Series)

I Quit.

I’m feeling God calling me to quit.

No, not my job, however things in my job, to help me do a better job.

That’s fun to say!

Today, I quit doing something I have been doing for six years…

Tuesday morning staff meetings.

Finished! Kaput, Asta-lavista Baby, Signora, Out Of Here, Never Again!

No it’s not that they weren’t productive or that I don’t enjoy the people I work with.

Relax.

It’s simply a decision to be MORE strategic.

A strategic decision to let go so our organization can go UP.

The reality is I don’t like to let go, and it’s a decision that I should have made years ago.

So let me ask you…

What are areas that you need to quit?

Where do you need to let go so you and your organization can go UP?

Where can you spend your time, energy and voice best?

P.S. – Make sure you pray this through and check with your boss first! :)

    Hey Buddy-

I have a hard time setting to and sticking to boundaries inside of a freelance project. I will literally work on something until my eyes are ready to fall out, which would be great if I were a young man again. My area to ‘quit’ is learning WHEN to quit a job to spend with my loved ones. In addition to being unfair to them, my life becomes severely unbalanced, and then I am no good to anyone.

Set your own boundaries, and STICK to them. Everyone in your life, including yourself, will thank you for it!

It is always hard to let go, but six years in, it is probably the right thing to do. In my former organization, I thought that nobody could do it as well as I did. That is just misplaced pride. I certainly can see you in the role of mentor, advisor and guide. Mentos: “intent, purpose, spirit, passion”. These days, I seem to be spending a lot of my time, energy and voice here. Hope that is not bothersome.

    Buddy,

I don’t have instant answers to these questions (not that you are actually looking to hear them) but I seriously am praying about them. Very good questions. I have to tell you though, I do feel this momentum building and I wonder what will need to change in my life. Hmmmmm……
Oh, by the way, my boss said I still have to go to OUR Tuesday morning meetings.
    Ha!!

Nate, I hear man. The great news with boundaries is freedom. Life by priotity instead of pressure.

Peter, Love you spending your time here. Thanks for throwing me under the bus with the whole misplaced pride thing:) We need Help in Colonie and we could use you so much more there. I’ll let Brian know.

    Chuck, Great…glad it helped!

Sue, Keep praying…then act. Funny about your meetings….yes I do want to hear your feedback….that is what my blog is all about!

    Buddy,
Whoops, all I meant was that you put the question out there for me to think about (for me). I’m glad you want to know though (and that doesn’t surprise me). You’re an amazing pastor!!!! Rick and I appreciate you more than I can put into words.

I quit smoking dude! Or to be clear….
God got me off cigarettes. Pastor Tim and the others have been preaching essentially James 1:22 & one day God said “Finish that can of tobacco (I’m old school & roll my own cigs) don’t buy another can and I’ll get you through the withdrawal.”
And He did. And I’m free from nicotine. And I want to tell everyone God’s love and healing power is greater then any addiction or other sin in your life. It’s SO AWESOME to be a Christian!
Tomorrow will be 3 full weeks cigarette/smoke/nicotine free & there are no cravings whatsoever. God is good all the time, all the time God is good.

    Buddy,

I am quiting making excuses. What I mean by that is I will let my yes be a yes and my no be a no. I will not follow everything with long drawn out explanations as to why or howcome I will or won’t (mostly won’t) do something because of guilt.
